About LA Galaxy:

Based in Los Angeles, California LA Galaxy are one of the best known soccer clubs that currently compete in MLS. LA Galaxy were founded in 1995 and were one of the original founding members of Major League Soccer beginning to play competitive matches in 1996.

Originally LA Galaxy played their home matches at the Rose Bowl Stadium until 2003 when the club moved to the Home Depot Centre a stadium which had been designed specifically for soccer matches. Interestingly, since 2005 LA Galaxy have shared home use of the stadium with city rivals Chivas USA.

LA Galaxy are considered to be a successful club in MLS having reached the MLS Cup Final on no less than five occasions emerging victorious twice in 2002 and 2005. In addition to this LA Galaxy have amassed an impressive haul of other trophies including the CONCACAF Champions Cup in 2000 and the US Open Cup in both 2001 and 2005.

However, despite this successful history La Galaxy have recently struggled to find a consistent run of good form resulting in the 2006 season being considered as the worst in the club's history.

The management had to make a move to ensure that the club would be lifted out of the recent lack of form and that poor performances would be reversed. The club made the decision to sign David Beckham on a five year deal. Since LA Galaxy signed David Beckham they have become the focal point for football commentators as the world is interested to known whether Beckham can become successful in MLS.

David Beckham has played for some of the most successful clubs in Europe such as Manchester United and Real Madrid and he has established himself as an impressive force in international football playing for his home nation England. However, it will be interesting to see whether "Golden Balls can bring his skilful performances across the Atlantic and become a star for LA Galaxy thereby promoting the game of soccer in USA.
